Percussion: Week of Aug 16 - 22
One week down! Congratulations on surviving a crazy first week back.
Thank you all for your efforts to meet class expectations and be present for rehearsals. Make sure you continue to be proactive with your class studies (band and all classes) in addition to your health. Make sure you continue to eat well, drink plenty of water and get plenty of sleep. While putting off homework and forgetting your water bottle may not have any immediate consequences, there will be issues in the long run.

You can access the weekly band update by clicking HERE.
Remember to bring large water bottles, active-wear, and appropriate footwear. Always have a hat ready.
Do not accept failure on these essential supplies. Proper clothing, shoes and having plenty of water at all rehearsals is essential for staying safe and healthy. Our first supply check will be water bottles at all three after school rehearsals.
Single use, bottled water is not an acceptable substitute for a large reusable water bottle.
Remember - we have access to an ice machine and water fountains.
Recommendation - keep your water bottle in your band locker. Empty it after every rehearsal and wipe/dry it using paper towels to keep it clean and free from mold.
Supply Check Grading
Minor Grade, 100 points
Missing water bottle from 1 rehearsal = loss of 20 points
Having a single water bottle that is less than half a gallon or bottled water = loss of 5 points
If you do not have a water bottle that is at least half a gallon, you may have multiple reusable water bottles to satisfy expectations. The goal should be to have enough water to last an entire rehearsal without needing a refill.
Half Gallon Igloo water jugs are available to purchase at Walmart
No water bottle at any rehearsal = final grade of 30 and an email to parents

All-Region/Semester Solo Project
Every semester, all percussionists are expected to learn a set of solos to ensure steady individual growth on our fundamental instruments. In the fall, we use the All-Region solos for all students that have at least 1 full year of band experience. Students with less than one year of band experience will be given alternate solos, appropriate for your experience.
We will have regular pass-offs due at the interval listed below. Pass-offs are to be video recorded and submitted on the Band App via a chat thread created by Mr. Collins.
The first pass-offs will be minor grades. The final pass-offs and performances will be major grades.
Meeting the pass-off schedule timeline will have everyone ready for All-Region Auditions.
Freshmen All-Region Auditions are on Saturday, November 14. Freshmen All-Region auditions are based on shorter cuts of the same solos.
9-12th Grade All-Region Auditions are on Saturday, December 5.
All Students with at least 1 full year of band experience is expected to take an All-Region audition.
Reminders:
Mandatory Band events scheduled with at least 2 weeks will be graded starting Monday, August 3
A parent must email Mr. Collins in advance of the event to have unavoidable conflicts be considered excused.
Points will be deducted for being late and/or not having necessary supplies.
Hats, proper shoes, athletic clothing appropriate from warm-weather, and a large, reusable water bottle are required for all rehearsals.
