Percussion: Week of Aug 23 - 29

Great job this week settling in on our new routine with classes in session.

We have our first football game and pep rally this week along with a few performance based grades. Please check that you know what you need to be prepared for. Also, get excited about our final Saturday rehearsal. Remember, Saturday rehearsals count as a major grade.

Cycle 1, Week 3, A Week, Aug 23 - 29

  • Sunday

    • No rehearsals, free

  • Monday

    • A1 - We will stay indoors, focus will be reviewing Parts 1-2, recording Rockadiddle and learning stands tunes

    • A3 - Mr. Mehrafshan will lead a review of show music. Warm-up set 1 will be due.

    • After School rehearsal from 3:30 - 5:30

  • Tuesday

    • B5 - Review Fight Song, Made You Look, Fireball, College Football Timeouts, Hip Hop Stadium Blasters. All Region Review

    • No rehearsal after school - Make sure you have completed all assignments in your other classes.

    • Spirit Night at Hawaiian Bros.

  • Wednesday

    • A1 - We will stay indoors. There will be a quick warm-up and run of show music. Performance Grade of Warm-up set 1 and Part 1 pass-off (memorized with proper step outs)

    • A3 - Practice loading the truck

    • After School rehearsal from 3:30 - 6:30 at Naaman Forest

  • Thursday (Pep Rally Day - PM Activity Schedule)

    • B5 - Run through show music and pep music

    • Pep Rally

      • Wear your Green Ranger Band shirt

    • Football Game v. Fossil Ridge (Home game at Williams Stadium). Students called immediately after school, Game starts at 7, 10:30 estimated dismissal

  • Friday (A Day)

    • A1 - We will stay indoors. There will be a quick warm-up and run of show music.

    • A3 - Part 1 Pass off

    • After School rehearsal from 3:30 - 6:30 at Naaman Forest

  • Saturday

    • Drill Camp from 12:00-4pm at Naaman Forest MAC

Looking Ahead

  • Saturdays in August (29) - Drill Camp from 12:00pm - 4:00pm

    • Rehearsals for all members in band, including front ensemble

  • After School Rehearsals will be on Monday, Wednesday and Friday Aug. 31 - Sept. 5

  • Our Second Football Game will be on Thursday, Sept 3 (Away Game at Eagle - Mustang Stadium)

Band Supplies + Weekly Supply Check Grade - Flip Folders

All students need a flip folder and a copy of all stands music for every football game. Students should be prepared to use a flip folder for music rehearsal after school.

  • This week’s supply check grade is a complete flip folder on Thursday.

    • Flip Folder - any local music store or online (Amazon LINK)

      • Currently the band is out, your best bet is to go to Music and Arts (by the Target on N. Garland Rd), or purchase online.

    • This week, a flip folder is a separate supply check grade. Moving forward, our game day checks for flip folders will be part of the football game grading.

      • No flip folder - loss of 10 points for the football game grade.

      • Unorganized flip folder - loss of 5 points

All-Region/Semester Solo Project

Pass off 1 (Half of snare solo) is due this Saturday by video. This is a minor grade

  • video recording must have clear audio, with face, hands and playing surface in view.

  • videos should be uploaded to our band app chat thread or emailed to Mr. Collins if there are technical difficulties.

Wednesday Loading Day for A3

Our first trailer loading of the season has earned some traditions over the past few years. A3 (Front Ensemble) will practice loading and unloading the trailer on Wednesday during class.

  • It will be hot, plan to have plenty of water and wear appropriate clothing.

  • Mr. Collins will provide lunch and gatorade to A3 students to celebrate and show gratitude for your efforts.

Reminders:

  • Mandatory Band events scheduled with at least 2 weeks will be graded starting Monday, August 3

    • A parent must email Mr. Collins in advance of the event to have unavoidable conflicts be considered excused.

    • Points will be deducted for being late and/or not having necessary supplies.

  • Hats, proper shoes, athletic clothing appropriate from warm-weather, and a large, reusable water bottle are required for all rehearsals.

  • All-Region Pass off 8 - Recorded Performance of entire Snare Solo + 4 mallet solo - due December 1 - Major Grade

  • All-Region Pass off 9 - Recorded Performance of entire Timpani Solo + 2 mallet solo - Due December 4 - Major Grade

  • Fall Band Auditions - December 9 - Major Grade

Grades may be made up or improved. Late submissions/retakes may be made up for consideration of full credit if done within 1 week of the due date. Late submissions/retakes may be made up for consideration of 90% full credit if done within 2 weeks of due date. Late submissions/retakes may be made up for consideration of up to 70% full credit if done after 2 weeks of due date. It is the student’s responsibility to set up and communicate make up assignments with Mr. Collins
