Percussion: Summer Band Camp
I hope this message finds you doing well and enjoying a restful, pleasant summer away from school.
We are one week away from the start of summer band camp. Here are some important updates to get you ready.
Summer Band Camp from July 21 - August 8 at Naaman Forest High School
About: Summer Band Camp is our annual mandatory summer practice schedule for marching band. These practices prepare us for the skills and music necessary to be successful with our many marching band performances that start before the school year begins. Percussionists are expected to attend all events for the band in addition to drumline only rehearsals.
July Drumline Camp from July 21 - July 25 daily from 9:30am - 4:00pm
Percussion only
Students are not allowed to leave campus during camp hours, including during the daily lunch break.
Full Band Camp from July 28 - August 1 and August 4 - 8, Currently daily from 7:30am - 3:30pm
For all band members, including percussion
Students may leave campus during lunch break, but the privilege may be removed due to poor individual behavior.
Daily Expectations
Earplugs, sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, and a large, reusable water bottle
Students should wear closed-toed athletic shoes, comfortable active wear suitable for outdoors and warm weather.
Students are responsible to bring their own lunch
Prepare a nutritious lunch that provides energy and keeps students healthy
Do not plan to have access to a refrigerator or microwave
Arrive early to be prepared to start rehearsal on time
Attendance
All band camp practices are mandatory, all conflicts should be communicated to Mr. Collins from a parent via email (ncollins@garlandisd.net)
Consequences for missing rehearsals may include attending makeup rehearsals and/or, a reassignment of position in the drumline
The students and band cannot be successful if students miss rehearsals due to transportation conflicts. We will work with individuals needing assistance with transportation. As a result, it is not acceptable to miss rehearsals due to conflicts with transportation. Please contact Mr. Collins with any transportation concerns.
Band Expectations
All percussionists are a part of the Band and Drumline.
All percussionists are responsible to meet the expectations for the entire band program, including being aware of all communication.
Additional Optional Events
Collins at Naaman on Wednesday, July 16 from 10am-1pm. The ENTIRE show has been completed and you can pick up your music this Wednesday.
DCI Denton Field Trip on July 17
GISD Multi-Purpose Activity Center Ground Breaking at Williams Stadium on Friday July 18 at 9:00am
Contact Mr. Falls (rfalls@garlandisd.net) and reply to Mr. Falls’ post on the Band App for the event if you are available.
Annual Member and Parent Meeting on July 28 from 3:30pm - 4:15pm
Hawaiian Waters on August 1
Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from Hawaiian Waters.
Possible Change to Band Camp Schedule from July 30 - August 9 - ACTION REQUIRED
Due to changes in the Garland ISD Staff Training and Development schedule, some changes to the daily rehearsal schedule may be necessary between July 30 - August 9.
No changes have been made at this time, but please fill out this form to help us plan with respect for any changes that may be necessary.
Band App and Website - Stay Connected
Our program uses this website and the Band App for most communication.
All students and parents must download the Band App and join our group. Join the Band App by clicking HERE. We currently have 6 percussionist and over 10 parents who have not joined our group. The band app allows for real-time messaging, updates and a lot of convenience. Thank you for taking care of this as soon as possible.

Plan Ahead! Weekly School-Year Marching Band Schedule
Stay on top of our schedule by following the Calendar section found at the top of this website. You can click HERE for our Google Calendar
Most weeks, we will have after school rehearsals on Monday (3:30-5:30), Wednesday (Stadium Rehearsal until 7pm) and Thursday (from 3:30-6:30)
We will perform at all Naaman Forest Varsity Football Games, generally on Fridays.
We have mandatory contest performances starting on Saturday, September 20 and ending on Saturday, November 8. Most Saturdays have an event during this time.
Band will have some mandatory events during Fall Break. There is a contest on Saturday, October 11, Rehearsals and a Football Game on October 16 and 17 and a contest on Saturday, October 18
