Additional Band Camp Reminders and Recommendations
Summer Band camp is the most important part of our marching season. The next three weeks will set the foundation for the entire season and our potential success will be determined by what we accomplish between now and August 10.
Reminders and Recommendations:
Band camp is mandatory. The entire program appreciates your commitment to meeting this expectation.
At this time, no one has communicated any conflicts outside of football practices. This is excellent!
Drink water, more than you think you need, from a large reusable water jug.
Sports drinks (Gatorade, Powerade) can be a nice change of pace and have additional benefits, but do not plan solely on these drinks. Only water can be open and consumed in the band hall suite and sports drinks contain a lot of sugar.
Eat food, clean food, that provides energy.
Avoid the “F” foods: Fried, Fatty, Fast.
Make it a goal that each meal has a clean protein and serving of veggies. Fruit is great too!
Get plenty of quality sleep and keep up with your personal hygiene
Be a positive influence for yourself and everyone around you.
Embrace challenge, celebrate success and identify what you enjoy about band and playing an instrument.
Acknowledge struggle when it festers, but strive for solutions.
Physical struggle is often a result of not eating well, sleeping well, or drinking enough water.
The challenging music, marching techniques, and long rehearsals will create a potential for mental struggle. Be your own champion and choose to find the positive over the negative.
Be good to each other. Stay away from drama.
Contact Mr. Collins whenever there are questions or conflicts as early as possible.
EBCon Performance - Congratulations and 3 Takeaways
Great job for those who participated in our performance at Webb this past Thursday. We provided the event exactly what they were wanting and it was a valuable, solid first performance of our core cadences. Additionally, all participants (and supporting family!) did a great job of meeting expectations for communication, transportation, arrival and attire.
Organization - If you do not already have a family calendar, please find a method to organize family events. Students need to be just as responsible as parents in communicating and adding to the calendar. Be proactive in adding events to the calendar as early as possible to avoid last minute complications.
Communication - If there is a known conflict, and/or a request to report your availability, please communicate appropriately.
The event went very well and it is not a problem that several students didn’t participate. However, no conflicts were communicated ahead of the google form that went out on July 6. Several students did not fill out the form by the requested due date, and some did not fill out the form at all. There would have been some adjustments that would have improved our performance had communication been better as a whole.
In the end, this was a good performance that offers us a great opportunity to takeaway some lessons before these things are more important in the near future. Thank you in advance for any efforts you take moving forward to improve the experience and success of yourself and those around you.
